For the last 8 months I have been receiving math tutoring from Alex. He is like no other tutor for this subject I have had. All of his sessions are personal and challenging, with help being offered whenever it is needed. The way the help is offered is personal too, the answer is never directly given but rather hints are given to help the student reach the answer. Only after all other options have been exhausted will Alex sit down and go through the question with you.

ADAM, 18Y/O, A-level maths

Alex has been tutoring my daughter, after she decided to take advance math at the end of her first term of A level subjects. I have found that his help had a very positive impact on her, and I rate him highly for her progress in math, economics, TSA that got her accepted ultimately in Oxford in economics and management.

PARENT OF 17 Y/O

Alex prepared our son for an 11+ entry interview at Winchester and accompanying maths test. Being from a country where few people go to UK boarding schools, the process was entirely new to us and Alex was instrumental in helping our son understand what would be required . Alex taught him via Zoom lessons in a very systematic manner over several weeks, with great patience and effect. We were delighted when he gained an offer. I would highly recommend Alex as a tutor.

PARENT OF 10 Y/O, INTERNATIONAL STUDENT

I managed to get an A* in maths and an A* in Physics, Edexcel exam board. I’m very happy about those results and I don’t know if I would have been able to do it without Alex’s help, so I want to thank him for the help in the last few months.

ASH, 18 Y/O

Ben got into all the schools he applied for – Ardingly, Ashford and Worth – not least thanks to your help.

PARENT OF 13 Y/O, PREPARING FOR 14+ SCIENCE & ENGLISH ENTRY TESTS

One thing that was really good was the flexibility in terms of how the hours were used. For example, I didn’t need that many hours on my personal statement and that was done really efficiently so we moved on and had more hours to prep for the MAT [Oxford Maths Admission Test]. During the MAT, I think it was not only helpful to go question by question, but especially the advice that you gave about individual practice. So it’s hard to know how I manage my time when we call as we talk it through, but you telling me to do a few papers on my own and timed was really helpful.

I also thought that saying you missed one of your interviews and that the interviewers were ok with rescheduling it was quite good as it makes it more clear that the interviewers aren’t mean and scary. And also, just saying that people are usually bad at judging how their interviews went is quite good for morale, as I thought that my second interview went badly but remembered this, which motivated me for the next one which was just an hour after the second (I couldn’t really afford to be upset so this helped).

[Note: student successfully received an offer from the University of Oxford.]

EMMA, 17 Y/O SUCCESSFUL OXFORD MATHS APPLICANT

Alex is friendly and his method of teaching is very easily understood. He is very encouraging and doesn’t get annoyed or upset.

RAJ, 10 Y/O, PRE-TEST PREPARATION IN MATHS, REASONING, ENGLISH

Alex really helped my son Isaac, 13, with his Maths preparation for secondary school entry. Isaac looked forward to lessons and found Alex’s approach to Maths engaging and fun.

PARENT OF 13 Y/O, MATHS & NON-VERBAL REASONING

Alex was very good in guiding my son through his year 10 math preparation. My son was already capable but his math improved steadily with Alex’s support. Alex proactively provided specific feedback and suggestions for improvements which were very helpful and appreciated.

PARENT OF 14 Y/O

Alex was great, and the students commented on how much better prepared they felt for their [Oxbridge entry] exams. On my side, I am incredibly appreciative of how adaptable Alex was. When there were issues with technology or timings, they were always willing to adjust.

head of sixth form, re. OXBRIDGE MATHEMATICAL SCIENCE APPLICANTS

Alex helped me with an area of maths I was finding difficult. He taught me some new calculation methods which massively improved my confidence and speed. He was flexible and approachable and I found his support very helpful.

Just got my results back and wanted to thank you for all the help. I got A*’s in maths and further maths and got 100 and 94 UMS in my mechanics modules.

JAMES, 18 Y/O

Alex’s teaching is enjoyed by both my son and daughter, and they find strength in having Alex help them. His very calm style is very helpful as my children both are cool headed. I surely would recommend Alex!!!
My son passed his Eton, Harrow, Westminster 1st stage… Well done dear Alex!!!

PARENT OF 10 Y/O & 17 Y/O

Your tutorials were very helpful as you guided me rather than just told me the right answer which was useful as it meant that I could think about my answers. What was especially useful was going through the sine and cosine curves and figuring out the values of them (π/3, π/6, etc.), as I have found that way of thinking beneficial when doing my non-calculator papers. Overall, I found the lessons extremely helpful as I now have a better understanding of the concepts and how to apply them.

EMILY, 15 Y/O IB STUDENT

Alex has helped me a lot when it comes to my overall understanding of maths, and with my IB coursework (IA and EE). His familiarity with the topics that I wanted to write about helped make our sessions very productive, and he was very accommodating to last minute schedules. He is able to easily communicate complicated mathematical ideas; I feel as though Alex has genuinely helped me to not only improve my work but to gain a greater understanding of my course. I would highly recommend him as a tutor for any curriculum, including IB maths.

ADRIAN, 17 Y/O IB STUDENT

Alex is providing tuition to my year 9 son in maths and the three sciences in preparation for GCSEs. His knowledge is very impressive: Alex dips effortlessly into any topic on the syllabus with a depth of clarity and understanding that enables my son to really “get it”. Alex’s style is particularly innovative, because he uses techniques such as video footage of things we see in daily life to explain very dry concepts. My son also says that Alex is very kind when he teaches, and provides a calm and easy-going atmosphere for the work.

PARENT OF 13 Y/O

I would highly recommend Alex to anyone who is looking to improve their Math grade. The time spent with him will be well worth it and you will begin to see the improvements for yourself soon after starting, as I did.

STUDENT, 18 Y/O

Alex has been tutoring my 15 year-old son for about 6 months in weekly online lessons. These have been to prepare him for 16+ entrance to UK boarding schools (including the interviews) and upcoming IGCSE exams in maths and physics. Alex’s tutoring has shown great success! My son has moved up several IGCSE grade levels (from the range of 4-5 to 7-8) in school tests, and gained admission to both schools he applied to, Rugby and Shrewsbury. We couldn’t be more pleased and highly recommend Alex as a tutor. My son has said he appreciates Alex’s ability to explain things clearly and as a parent, I’ve found Alex to be very professional in his approach.

PARENT OF 15 Y/O

Mr. Alex son’s tutor in A Level Maths and Economics from 1st June 2018 till 15th June 2019.
He has been an excellent tutor since day one. He is extremely reliable, always on-time and prepared with lessons and homework. Mr. Alex is an energetic self-starter and always looks for new and innovative ways to make the material more exciting. His enthusiasm and creativity are inspiring, and definitely what I would look for in a tutor.

My son achieved fantastic result in his A-Level Economics Result which would not have been possible without Mr. Alex’s support.

PARENT OF 17 Y/O

In November 2019, Alex was contracted to visit Notting Hill Ealing High School and Putney High School to conduct mock interviews for these schools’ Oxbridge university applicants. Alex conducted 8 mock interviews for students applying for the following courses: maths, physics, physics & philosophy, computer science & philosophy, engineering). Each mock interview lasted 45 minutes, covering a range of challenging questions that simulate the real interviews for their respective courses, based on Alex’s experience as a mock Oxbridge interviewer. He also provided written interview feedback for each student on their problem solving ability, academic curiosity and communication skills, along with suggestions on how to further prepare for the interview.

Alex was on time for every meeting and conducted himself in a thoroughly professional manner. When asked for their feedback on their experience in their mock interviews, each of Alex’s students were very pleased with the session. They felt they had received constructive support and made significant progress. Alex was a pleasure to work with and we look forward to working with him in the future on Oxbridge consultancy.
